Half-Step Bends Into the 3rd

The Buck Owens / Don Rich "wink into the chord" move. Bend a half-step up so you arrive on the 3rd of the incoming chord exactly on beat 1 of the new bar. Start the bend late in the outgoing bar; land fully bent on the downbeat.

Timing: start the bend on beat 4 (or the "& of 4") of the outgoing bar. Fully stretched at the target pitch on beat 1 of the new chord. Hold briefly, release, continue.
Start here (unbent) Land here (bent — the 3rd)
Bend direction: push the string up toward the ceiling (toward the low E) on the B & high-E strings; on the G string the convention is usually pull down toward the floor (physical feel is the same — the string moves perpendicular to itself, raising pitch). A half-step = one fret's worth of pitch. You're aiming to hear the note that would be at the next fret up.
